"[The Poetry Brothel] has an edge of the illicit, and is a wonderful way to enliven the performance aspect of poetry"

Loosely based on bordellos of early 20th Century France, the Poetry Brothel initially appears to be a drink-fuelled burlesque event, but when a client delves below the candlelight to peruse the menus offer, its true purpose becomes startlingly apparent: for a small fee, they can slake their literary lust with personal, one-on-one readings from a selection of “poetry whores".
The 2007 Brighton Fringe Festival saw the launch of the worlds first Poetry Brothel and since then Poets from New York City, Barcelona, Chicago and more have intoxicated their cities with verse. Now the movement returns to England, ready to seduce clients with a spectrum of sultry sonnets, bawdy ballads and fantastical filth. Such individuals, those too shy to partake and those still recuperating will be treated to a full bar with absinthe, live entertainment and other [dark] surprises.
