Revolution Prophesised: an illustration by Kieron Edwards
After an incredibly long wait, (commissions, excursions and literary events delaying us a little) I am proud to present the latest in the illustrated Infernal Madici collection: Revolution Prophesised. We're almost half way to getting the book published now, but if you would like to order a pre-release print or information regarding how to place PRE pre-orders, please give me an email at tim.grayson@mymeenterprises.com. As always, all thoughts/comments/opinions in reference to the pictures are appreciated, and I always ensure it gets back to the artist. Now, time to start planning the next piece of the labyrinth: Synthetic Eye!

October will house two 'Studies' and one Poetry Brothel!
Wow, October is shaping up to be a busy month...doesn't look like we'll be leaving Leicester! On the 10th, we'll be bringing the Study of the Decadent Romantics to the Crumblin' Cookie for Everbody's Reading Festival, and then again on the 22nd for the Spectacular at the old Phoenix Cinema. On the 23rd, I'll be hosting the next Poetry Brothel at O-Bar on Braunstone Gate. So, yes, just a few dates for your diaries!
As a side note, we spent some of the Everybody's Reading grant money to commission Kieron [Edwards] to do a painting of us...and I'm proud to present the results below(!) Genius.

Hola from Cataluña!
Apologies for my laziness in blogging as of late, I've been finding it hard to find time to fit everything into my schedule, let alone documenting it as I go! I'm currently in Barcelona for the European Poetry Brothel AGM as well as an extended holiday with Caz, but I still need to write a couple of things for the next issue of FD2D so my mind's a bit scatty at the moment. I hosted an event at the Lyric Lounge this weekend just gone, the Study of the Decadent Romantics, which went down a storm - Kieron even did a couple of sketched illustrations for Nomadica whilst hanging out so I'll be sure to upload them when I get back home. Overall, a very proactive couple of weeks. I forgot to mention before, but if you'd like to see King Film's completed documentary on us (the Decadent Romantics) please click here!
Now, for a brief summary of my trip so far: went to see the flamenco production of 'Lluvia' in a Greek-style amphitheater on the first night which was absolutely fantastic. We've since travelled up Monserrat (the serrated mountain) and seen an original Caravaggio, (Penitent Saint Jerome) along with works by Dali, Picasso, Matisse, Renoir, etc. We've also had the AGM, of course, which was interesting to see how differently they do things over here. So yes...so far, it's been a bloody good break. I feel inspired enough to write.
Adios amigos,
Tim

'Sammy's Rose' debuts at the Y Theatre, Leicester
The first of my Kerouac-inspired pieces successfully debuted at the Y Theatre, Tuesday 6th April in support of the sensationally humble Mimi Khalvati. Thank you to everybody who made it down - I hope to see you all at the next one!
See you soon,

Manacle Smiles: an illustration by Kieron Edwards
The illustrated Manacle Smiles is now online! We spent the day showcasing it at the States of Independence press fair, but forget about those lucky publishers, if you click here you will be among one of the first to see it in it's completed form! I hope you like it - give me an email to let me know what you think (tim.grayson@mymeenterprises.com). Constructive thoughts and comments are always appreciated.
Take care of yourselves,
Tim

Beginning the 'Bankrupt Beats' project
I started listening to a lot of Jack Kerouac whilst struggling through Ethereal Liberty, and decided to start a Beat Generation side project to help free up my mind. I know it's a change from my usual style but it's nice to write something different! You can read the first [pretty dark] poem in the project, Sammy's Rose, by clicking here.
I hope you like it,
Tim

The Poetry Brothel seduces the weird and wonderful clientel of the Imaginarium!
What a magical evening. I don't think I could write a description which would truely capture the electric atmosphere of the night. Please try to imagine a candle-lit Georgian room full of Poetry Whores prostituting their work to discerning gentlepeople whilst the co-founder of the Poetry Brothel, Jimmy Cairney (aka Jimmy McGee) serenades queuing clients with his ukelele. The Imaginarium was due to stay open until 4am, so after we closed the Poetry Brothel for business at 1am, gypsy jazz musicians played on and around the chez longs whilst our patrons danced on moroccan rugs until close. I'm writing this after reading a stack of glowing reviews so [needless to say] I'm extremely happy and proud of myself right now.
Here's a picture of the Imaginarium & Poetry Brothel's takeover of the BBC on the 4th, minutes before our interviews:

From Left: Master of Ceremony (Alex Desade), Mr Grayson (myself), Ringmaster (Dan Lamoon) and the Lord (Jonny Prest). Picture taken 4th February 2010.

Poetry Brothel confirmed as part of the Imaginarium!
Imaginarium (Official) Imaginarium (Leicester Comedy Festival)
Poetry Brothel (more details)
I'm ensuring the Poetry Brothel will be part of the bizarre Imaginarium, Leicester Comedy Festival's official launch party on Friday 5th February 2010! Due to the sheer size and grandeur of the venue, most of my immediate time will be dedicated to this project so unfortunately it's unlikely I'll make any ground on the play before then.
Just a little more information for you, Kieron Edwards is currently illustrating The Bazaar, (from Infernal Madici) as a commissioned piece for From Dusk 2 Dawn magazine. I complete forgot to mention it before but it's almost complete so I'll be sure to put it up here when it's done!
Talk soon,
Tim

Ethereal Liberty : [Hard] work in progress!
I've been getting tired delaying the inevitable and so spent the whole of last Saturday working on the final introductory speech for Liberty. It seemed as though the other scenes were flowing out of me but actually giving the story a good start was the most daunting challenge of all (I already had the rough outline but it needed an awful lot of work). I’m now very tired but very happy with the results. You can read it through here - any thoughts/comments/opinions will be appreciated, even the not-so-pleasant ones(!)
Take care,
Tim

Ethereal Liberty: A fantastical play?
I was discussing the concepts of Ethereal Liberty with Caz whilst on holiday in Tenby last week. As you can probably guess from the title of this blog, I came to the conclusion that a poetry collection would end up being too similar to Madici and decided that a poetical play would be so much more challenging. This means that "Arrival" will now be the introductory speech made by the narrator. I've almost completed the first act so I should be able to upload it shortly; I'm pretty excited about it!
I welcome all of your opinions on this, whether favourable or not, and my email address is in the contact section. I hope you like the idea, after all, you'll be the people reading it, (or not as the case may be!)
Speak soon,
Tim

"Flutter (a transition)"
I never had any issues with ripping it into "Flutter". After all, it was designed to take the story of Madici over to Liberty as simply as possible, and it did so quite effectively. However, as most people have probably worked out, I despise simplicity. What is the point in creating something which merely "moves the story along"? It's the equivalent of fillers in an album - nobody likes them but they get you from where you are to where you want to be. I stopped and thought about Sum 41's debut, "All Killer, No Filler" and discovered that is what I want to create. Not a good album obviously, but you get my meaning. I was so busy struggling on Liberty that I neglected the path which connected the two tales. Now it's complete, I can see it's an important piece. I now want to provoke the reader into questioning the Narrator's motives; it's an idea they probably hadn't thought before. I know I hadn't!
I'm very happy with the end result - I hope you like it too.

UFC 99 - Germany in a weekend!
Last weekend was fantastic, but also weird being in London at 4am on Saturday and getting back Sunday noon! Hordes of roided up muscle-bound UFC fanatics swarmed through the streets of Cologne and it was f*cking excellent. Dan Hardy won a split decision to Marcus Davis, rocking the entire arena (and making us jump up and down like little school girls). Yeah, that and chilling with Nathan and Caz at the after party pretty much made the trip. I'll add a couple of photos onto here shortly, but best get going now - it's fathers day and I'm meant to be catching the train to Wellingborough to meet my dad.
In a bit,
Tim

Riverside Festival
I had an excellent time at the festival this weekend - thank you to those who made it down, those who made it possible, and those who bought signed copies of my work - I couldn't do this without you guys! The next event listed (at the time of writing) is in November, but I'll try and arrange one in the space before then. If you ever have any questions about my work, please feel free to ask me at the next show or (even easier) send an email - I promise to respond as quickly as possible.
Until next time,
Tim
